LIFE + Lands of Priolo
The LIFE Project Lands of Priolo (LIFE12 NAT/PT/000527) is a partnership between the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Regional Secretariat of Energy, Tourism ans Environment (SREAT), with the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Community.
Aims to contribute to the management of Natura 2000 SPA Pico da Vara / Ribeira do Guilherme site through the implementation of innovative management and restoration of Laurel forest, biodiversity monitoring, management of public use, public awareness and promoting sustainability in the long term.
This improved management of the SPA will contribute to the effective conservation of the world's Priolo (Pyrrhula murina) that is restricted to this protected area of the island of São Miguel, in the Azores.

Nurseries of the Life Lands of Priolo project: 6 years of production

During the Life Project Lands of Priolo, the production of around 180 000 native and endemic plant species of the Azores to be used in the recovery actions on the Serra da Tronqueira was expected.
Team of LIFE Lands of Priolo measures intervention areas

In the last years of the Life+ Lands of Priolo, the field actions have focused mostly in the C6 and C7 actions corresponding to the Gradient area and water line of the Serra da Tronqueira where the invasive dominant species are Yellow Ginger Lilly and the Cheesewood that occupy part of the intervention area .
